Alzheimer's Assistance Program
Helping families create calm, familiar, and safer home environments for loved ones living with Alzheimer's and dementia.
Safety and Comfort, Room by Room
More than five million Americans are estimated to have Alzheimer's or similar dementia, and many have not been formally diagnosed. For families navigating memory loss, the home itself can become a source of confusion, frustration, or danger.
Aging In The Comfort Of Home® trained professionals and certified specialists evaluate every area of the home to identify risks and implement thoughtful modifications. Our goal is to preserve familiarity while removing hazards, so your loved one can continue living with dignity in the space they know best.
"When the home feels familiar and safe, the person you love can hold on to who they are a little longer."
Every evaluation is free and completely without obligation. We meet families where they are and work at a pace that feels right.
Room-by-Room Safety Modifications
Our certified specialists evaluate every area of the home using a comprehensive Alzheimer's safety checklist. Here are some of the key focus areas.
Throughout the Home: Smoke and CO detectors, adequate lighting, secure handrails, covered electrical outlets, locked medications and alcohol, removed clutter and tripping hazards, and safe access to all living areas.
Kitchen: Safety knobs and automatic shut-off switches on the stove, locked cleaning products and sharp items, removed artificial food items, secured garbage disposal, and a night-light for safe navigation.
Bedroom & Bathroom: Night-lights, monitoring devices, grab bars, non-skid strips, raised toilet seats, single-faucet temperature control, water heater set to 120°F, and locked medications.
Outdoor & Entry Areas: Textured steps, reflective tape on edges, handrails, secured walkways, motion-sensor lighting, pool fencing, locked tools and chemicals, and restricted access to potentially dangerous areas.
